Causes Of Cellulite

Cellulite is a skin defect in which the skin appears overly dimpled and lumpy. The susceptible areas cellulite is likely to affect are the buttocks and the thighs. Women are the major sufferers of cellulite. Fat is the most common cause of cellulite; cellulite is a result of deposits of fats that pushed beyond the connective tissue under the skin layer.

Expert dermatologists postulate that cellulite affects 80 to 90 percent of women. Women are the major sufferers because of their different distribution of fat, muscle, and connective tissues. Women have resolved to use anti-cellulite measures ranging from cellulite creams, anti-cellulite creams, cellulite lotions and cream for cellulite bumps

The cause of cellulite is still unknown, but it seems to be a dysfunctional interaction between the tissue that connects the dermatological layer beneath the skin and the layer that stores fat just beneath it. The connective tissue is the boundary that separates the fat-storing layer and the dermatological layer. So the protrusion of the fat cells into the dermatological layer resultantly causes cellulite.

The tissue in men doesn’t connect the skin layer and the fat-storing layer together rather it is structured in a criss-cross manner. This reduces the risk of cellulite in men.

However, there are quite some factors that have been shown to induce cellulite.

Hormone-induced factors

Hormones seemingly play an active role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen, insulin, prolactin and a few others act as catalysts in the formation of cellulite. Blood flow is decreased when a woman approaches menopause thus reducing the flow of oxygen and weakening the connective tissue that serves as the separation line between the skin layer and the fat-storing layer.

Once the connective tissue is weak, the protrusion of fats into the skin layer becomes quite easy; this gives the skin a dimpling effect.

Age is yet another factor. The skin sags over time; its elasticity is also reduced increasing the chances of cellulite formation.

Gene-induced factors

A person’s gene can also instigate cellulite. People genes differ by their culture, diet, metabolic speed, fat distribution and digestion processes. Certain genes stand as prerequisites for the formation of cellulite.

Unhealthy lifestyle

People who consume a high amount of fat, carbohydrates and spicy foods are more likely to be susceptible to cellulite. Smokers also stand a risk of having cellulite as this also reduces the circulation of blood flow. Lack of exercising and sitting for too long can also pose as a risk factor.

Wearing underwear with a tight elasticity around the waist can also limit the flow of blood around the buttocks; this is a contributing factor to the formation of cellulite. People with excess fat are prone to have cellulite. The absence of fat in slim people doesn’t exclude them from having cellulite; cellulite is most likely to occur after the age of 25.
